How to Create a Comfortable Work Space

As most of you know, I work in an office on weekdays and transition to Wedding Coordinator on the weekends. If you work in an office environment I’m sure you’ve seen the, “Why Summer is Women’s Winter” YouTube video and as a woman can TOTALLY relate. Since your office is basically your second home it’s important to set yourself up for success by making your space more comfortable. Let’s be honest – if your environment is off so is your focus which can take a toll on your mental health over time.

1 // BLANKET SCARF

There is literally nothing worse than being cold when trying to work. For a long time I struggled and pushed through the cold conditions (feeling like you might lose a finger to frostbite) but no more! I recommend having a blanket scarf or two so you can put it over your shoulders or legs. I have a blanket as well as a blanket scarf at my desk, but if you want to look more professional I would skip the blanket – the overly bundled up look isn’t too cute and people notice (and make a point to mention it). A blanket scarf is a great blanket replacement because it gets the job one but looks like part of your outfit. You can find reasonably priced and cute ones on Amazon.

2 // HEATING PAD/FAN

Yup – another office temperature bullet, can you tell I am picky? If your space is cold get yourself a heating pad to sit on or put on your lap – life changing! That way if your fingers get cold you can hold them under the heating pad for a little while and get some relief. Also, for all the ladies out there, this really comes in handy if you get back cramps like I do during that time of the month, just saying (thank me later). If your office is hot get yourself a mini & quiet fan, hopefully it’ll be strong enough to bring you some relief.

3 // DIFFUSER

I recently decided to put a diffuser at my desk – game changer! I bought this set from Amazon and kept one at home. This helps add moisture to the air around you which is good for your sinuses, skin and overall health. Just make sure to keep it clean! You can also add essential oils for stress, focus, etc. but be careful with brands and do your research. Some good ones are doTERRA and Young Living.

4 // NOISE CANCELING HEADPHONES

This hasn’t been much of an issue for me, probably because I’m the one doing most of the talking in my department (oops). BUT I know that a lot of people struggle with focus if they are surrounded by noise. Recently, Steve got a pair of fancy Sony headphones that have a ton of features for noise canceling, ambient noise, etc. Bose also has a comparable option. But if you are on a budget or aren’t willing to splurge on a pricey pair, my friend said these ones from Amazon do the trick.

5 // TOILETRIES

When it comes to products I am very needy (no shame). At my desk I always have lip balm, hand lotion, cuticle balm/salve, deodorant, perfume, hairbrush, toothbrush & paste, lint roller and Kleenex. I know – it’s a lot! But you will definitely use all of it regularly.

6 // HEALTHY SNACKS

I’d be lying if I said I were perfect on the eating front (womp womp, I wish). My office is regularly stocked with all of the beautiful and delicious treats/snacks that we wish didn’t go straight to our thighs (real bummmmmer). And if you are trying to stay on top of your goals and not fill your body with garbage it can make being consistent pretty challenging. SO I have a drawer in my desk filled with yummy but healthy(ier) snacks like rice cakes, almond butter, oatmeal, coconut chips, etc. They save me when I’m considering the mini snickers or donut that have been staring deep into my stomachs soul all day.

7 // PERSONAL TOUCH

And lastly, I brought in some picture frames of family and a little candle to spruce up my space. Some people bring in lamps if they feel more light is needed but I don’t have that issue.

And there you have it! After working in an office environment for years I am starting to get this down. Share your tips on how you make your office life more comfortable in the comments below!

Byyyyyyyeeeee.
