Since winter is around the corner we have to take advantage of the snowless weather we have been experiencing here in Denver! Though it’s a little chilly outside I still love an opportunity to wear a dress. And you can’t go wrong with two of the more popular styles this year; ribbed knit and knee high boots. As everyone knows, the key to a great ensemble is confidence! In the past I ran into this issue where I would see a blogger wearing a stunning outfit on Instagram, but when I thought about wearing it myself I got discouraged. Since I let that insecurity go I have really expanded my wardrobe and have a lot more fun experimenting with my style! Don’t be afraid to wear what you want, you’ll look fantastic.
The Dress
I found this olive ribbed knit dress at Forever21, which is where I’ve actually found a lot of my favorite and staple pieces for my wardrobe. You can’t go wrong with an olive item or a ribbed knit dress…put them together and you have a winner. Usually I go for a more subtle or conservative cut but I’ve really grown to love this style and wanted to try it out. I like that I feel a little saucy and sexy when I throw this dress on! I also recommend wearing a bodycon slip under these dresses, it just helps me feel a little more comfortable, especially since some less expensive dresses don’t have as thick of material as others.
The Knee Highs
I absolutely LOVE these knee high boots! I found them last season through Lacey’s blog My Boring Closet and I will forever thankful for her—THANK YOU, LACEY! They are from ASOS, which has been a little hit or miss for me but these boots were definitely a great find! I don’t wear them all the time because I don’t want to exhaust the style, I like to whip them out on a fun night out for a saucy look. I loved this boot and dress combo because there was still a little skin showing between the two pieces. Personally, I prefer to have a little skin to break up the outfit when wearing knee high boots (unless you are wearing them with jeans.) Even though I love these boots you do have to be careful when putting an outfit together—there is a fine line between sexy and not so sexy that is easy to cross with these puppies. My trick is to have more clothing coverage just to make sure you aren’t revealing too much! Which is why I chose a long sleeve dress that comes almost all the way down to the top of the boots and has a small cutout detail.
The Hat
This is a style I rarely go for but when I do I try to throw it in with an outfit that doesn’t have a lot going on (solid colors, no patterns, monotone colors, light make up, etc.) I got this hat a couple years ago when the trend first made its appearance and was a little harder to come by, but now that it has really caught on you can find these hats everywhere! See some of my current favors at the bottom of the post.
I hope you enjoyed this look and are inspired to test the boundaries with some confidence! Like or comment below with any questions you have!
